Registration Deadline for Performers: Monday, June 17, 11:59 PM (ET)

The Americas are so much bigger than the United States.  From Tierra del Fuego to the Inuit communities of Alaska and Northern Canada, the history of the Americas is one of brutal colonization by European powers.  It is also a history of resistance by the colonized peoples themselves and by all people who struggle for their freedom.  In this international song exchange, we're looking for songs that tell the story the Americas from the perspective of the latter.

We want to especially encourage songs in Spanish since it is the most commonly spoken language in our hemisphere.   All languages of the Americas are welcome.    We will provide Spanish-English interpretation for this event to facilitate dialog among artists in between songs.

When submitting lyrics for this international song exchange, please consider sending a translation into at least one other language, besides the one you are singing in.  PMN's audience is primarily English Speaking but for this event we're aiming to draw in people who speak and sing in other languages of the Americas.

Eligibility to Perform:

Performers in this swap must:

1)   Be invited artists and/or PMN members in good standing.*

2)   Register using the online form.

3)   Have a computer with functioning video camera and microphone.

* If you are not a PMN member, you may join here: https://www.peoplesmusic.org/join-PMN

***  PMN song swaps generally follow the convention of inviting each artist to do 1 song.  In this case, we are inviting some featured artists, especially our international guests to offer two songs.  This will have the effect of limiting the number of artists we can include more than some of our other exchanges.  Please still offer a song, knowing that if there isn't a chance to share it here, there will be in the near future.  Thank you for your patience!

How to Participate

Using the "Register" button in the upper left area of the registration web page, PMN members are invited to sign up to share a song or a poem and/or to be part of the audience for this event. After registering, you receive an e-mail message containing the Zoom Meeting link. Due to time constraints and a vibrant community of performers keen to participate (400 active PMN members in total), it isn't always possible to include every interested performer in the final line up. In the event that not everyone performs, we'll make a wait list. Most people perform live, but we also welcome pre-recorded videos, immediately preceded by a live introduction. We prioritize inclusion of newcomers, young artists, and artists of color.

What is Peoples Music Network?

The People's Music Network for Songs of Freedom and Struggle sustains and grows a diverse community of performing artists, activists, and allies who use music, poetry, and other art forms as catalysts for a just and peaceful world.

We host online, in-person, and hybrid programs that advance our mission, including online song and poetry swaps, educational workshops, and other participatory activities.  This specific event follows many other international exchange events PMN has hosted over Zoom connecting our membership, which is predominantly in the United States, with justice seeking artists in other countries.
