The Americas are so much bigger than the United States. From Tierra del Fuego to the Inuit communities of Alaska and Northern Canada, the history of the Americas is one of brutal colonization by European powers. It is also a history of resistance by the colonized peoples themselves and by all people who struggle for their freedom. In this international song exchange, we've curated songs that tell the story the Americas from the perspective of the latter. Some songs will be in English, but most are in Spanish, since it is the most commonly spoken language in our hemisphere.
During the second half of this event, in between songs, we will offer simultaneous English-Spanish translation, courtesy of Jill Clark-Gollub. This will accommodate international guests who speak Spanish and enable artists to have a dialog. ***You will have to register and receive the Zoom link in order to hear the speakers being translated. ***
