SING A SONG FOR JUSTICE!

This concert showcases members of color in the People's Music Network. We're joining together for this concert to build our community and raise money for The Matt Jones Technology Fund (MJTF) -- PMN's dedicated fund that supports the participation of BIPOC artists (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) in the Network.  PMN sustains and grows a diverse community of performing artists, activists, and allies who use music, poetry, and other art forms as catalysts for a just and peaceful world.

MJTF provides mini-grants to members of color for audio equipment such as microphones, mic stands, audio interfaces, ethernet cables, and other tools used for performing at online events and for recording at home.  Most grants are in the range of $100-$150, based on need.   The fund aims to build reciprocal relationships with mini-grant recipients: the MJTF Committee provides financial assistance and organizes educational workshops on using audio equipment and one-on-one technical coaching.  Grant recipients join the People’s Music Network and share their skills and music with fellow PMN members.

PMN Members of color may apply for this fund using the following link:  https://forms.gle/2VNsMWFcUwD4aX9L6

ABOUT MATT JONES

Matt Jones was an activist in the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), which was one of the leading organizations in the Civil Rights Movement. Matt was also a founding member of the organization’s singing ensemble, “The SNCC Freedom Singers”, which toured the United States as part of an organizing drive to build the Friends of SNCC. Jones said of the Freedom Singers, “We were organizers first, singers second.” Matt wrote many songs and stayed engaged in People’s Movements throughout his life. He was a stalwart figure in People’s Music Network for many years. He lived from September 17, 1936 – March 30, 2011. PMN remembers his legacy of promoting racial justice and building a multi-racial and inter-generational movement by inaugurating this fund in his name.
