Hotels near the School
All these hotels are in the Borough of Queens. There are now many more small hotels in Queens and throughout the five boroughs of New York City than there were just a few years ago. These are only a few of the most conveniently located to both Manhattan and Jackson Heights. There are also many hotels near LaGuardia Airport, which is only about 2 miles and a short ride on the Q33 bus from the Renaissance Charter School, but farther from Manhattan than the hotels listed below. Please call the individual hotels to find their current rates. They very often give discounts to AAA and AARP members, so be sure to ask. Even more substantial discounts may be available if rooms are booked through an Internet site such as Orbitz, Expedia, or Travelocity. Even so, expect to pay more than $100 per night plus tax for a room with two double beds. Please note that neither PMN nor the Renaissance Charter School endorses any particular hotel or travel website.
Pan American Hotel
79-00 Queens Boulevard • Elmhurst, NY 11373
718-446-7676 • 800-937-7374 for reservations only
Less than 2 miles from the Renaissance Charter School. Less than 1 mile from I-278/BQE (Queens Boulevard exit). A somewhat long walk to the subway, and that would be to the M and R lines. You would then have to change at Roosevelt Avenue for the No. 7 train or the Q32 bus. This hotel is better for people with cars than for those using public transportation.
La Quinta Inn
37-18 Queens Boulevard • Long Island City, NY 11101
718-729-8775 • 800-531-5900 for reservations only
Less than 3 miles from the Renaissance Charter School. The Q32 bus stops in front of the hotel and in front of the Renaissance Charter School, and the 40th-Lowery Street subway (elevated) station for the No. 7 train is only 3 blocks away. This is probably the most convenient hotel for people using public transportation.
31-36 Queens Boulevard • Long Island City, NY 11101
718-433-0077 • 800-225-3297 for reservations only.
Also less than 3 miles from the Renaissance Charter School. Close to the Q32 bus, and the 33rd-Rawson Street subway (elevated) station for the No. 7 is only 2 blocks away. This hotel is built right up against the elevated line, so that side of the building might get noisy, but maybe it is well insulated.
42-24 Crescent Street • Long Island City, NY 11101
About 3 miles from the Renaissance Charter School. Near the Queens side of the Queensborough (59th Street) Bridge. This is a congested area for driving, but it’s only 1 block from Queens Boulevard and the Queensbrough Plaza subway (elevated) station. From there you can get the No. 7 train or the Q32 bus.
138-46 Northern Blvd.
Flushing, NY 11354
(718) 961-6880, Ext.133 – http://www.ymcanyc.org/association/guest-rooms/flushingrooms
If you are interested in staying in a hostel, this is the only one we are familiar with. It’s on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, close the No. 6, B, and C trains and to many buses. You can find other hostels by searching Internet sites such as www.hostels.com and www.hostelz.com but we know nothing about them.
