Directions to Friday Get-together

2014 PMN WINTER GATHERING DIRECTIONS – Overview & Friday evening gathering

General travel information: The best way around New York City is the subway – no traffic or parking headaches, and both PMN gathering locations are close to subway stations. The basic fare is $2.50, but you get a discount if you buy a MetroCard, sold in machines in subway stations. Buses take MetroCards or exact change only – meaning coins; no bills. Below are basic directions to the two gathering sites. To visualize and/or get more details, use Google maps, www.hopstop.com or the trip planner at the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s website, www.mta.info. Inside NYC, you can also call the MTA by just dialing 511. Click here for a map of the site:  St. John’s Church

From JFK Airport:

Take the AirTrain monorail to the Long Island Railroad Jamaica Station. Buy a ticket to Penn Station and take any westbound train headed to Penn Station. At Penn Station, follow the subway directions above.

From LaGuardia Airport:
This is the exception to the public transit rule. Public transit from LaGuardia is lousy. Take a cab. Give the driver the address: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 83 Christopher St., between 7th Ave. and Bleecker St. in Greenwich Village. Tip 15 %.

From wherever else you may be:
Enter the address of the place you are staying and the destination address, 83 Christopher St., New York, NY, into Google maps, www.hopstop.com or the trip planner at the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s website, www.mta.info.

Driving:
If you are driving, if at all possible, park your car at the home of the people you are staying with or at the hotel/motel you are staying at when you arrive on Friday, and take the subway to the Friday evening event. Parking in Greenwich Village on a Friday evening is difficult and/or expensive. Drive to the church, unload passengers and then look for street parking or a parking garage. If you park on the street, read the signs to make sure it is a legal spot at the time you are parking. Parking tickets are very expensive, and getting towed even more so.
Here are general driving directions from several major departure areas. Please use Google maps or another mapping tool for specific directions from your location.
